Women Do It Too: The Case of Russell Crowe

  • Sep. 9th, 2009 at 10:20 AM

In my last post on the Flabulous Lizzi Miller picture in Glamour Magazine, someone brought up Russell Crowe in the comments and it reminded me of a small article I had recently read about him.

Apparantly, he was out biking with his personal trainer and they stopped to have a snack. Russell proceeded to eat three tacos and drink a large soda.  A female reporter saw him do this and wrote a scathing article mocking his "fitness routine" and commenting on his belly flab.  She was basically saying he was obviously unfit based on what he ate and how he looked. Again, this is a case of evaluating someone's health on very limited data.

When Russell read the article, he issued a good-natured, public challenge to the female reporter that they should bike 25k together and see who was fitter.  She agreed, and they had their bike ride with Russell leaving her in the dust the whole way.

My point is, we women do it too.  The body image hammer can swing both ways.  But I would still contend that is swings the female direction a hell of a lot more often than the male direction.
